Confronting Complexity: Uncle Nat King Coal's Expertise in Creating Intelligent Machines

Col. Nat King Coal was a Canadian Mounted Police black bear who had met my father Col. Snowball side by side at the Battle of Vimy Ridge which took place in 1917 during World War I. It was fought in northern France and resulted in a victory for the Canadian Corps, led by Colonel Nat King Coal, over the German forces. The battle was a major achievement for the Canadian forces and is often considered a defining moment in Canadian history.

In the aforementioned fight, the great friendship of both bears was forged. Uncle Nat was tall, dark, and handsome, and his gleaming jet-black fur was the envy of all the plantigrades he dealt with on a daily basis, for such was the quality of his jet-black fur's sheen and silkiness. The package was completed with a quick wit and a mischievous smile and captivating emerald, green eyes. He was quite a gallant and some confused him with an actor, such were his bearing and gait; If the call of his homeland had not been so powerful, surely our protagonist would have ended up acting as Otello, to name one relevant role, and he would have been a Hollywood heartthrob.

Although the title of this page may suggest otherwise, it is not related to any Motown groups from the 1960s during the Anthropocene era. Instead, I have selected my "uncle" and godfather, Colonel Nat King Coal, to provide insight into the various aspects that define our robots.

Colonel Nat King Coal, also known as "Uncle Nat," was once close friends with my father, Colonel Snowball. However, a series of events involving a personal indiscretion on Uncle Nat's part led to a fall from grace in our family's eyes. It occurred when my father, who was attending a crisis meeting away from home, left the care of myself and my mother in Uncle Nat's hands. Despite being warned against fraternizing with our matriarch, Uncle Nat still managed to win her affection over the course of a few drinks of sherry. That evening, my sister Frost was conceived.

Due to his disgraceful behavior and subsequent estrangement from my father, Uncle Nat now faces the difficult task of explaining the remaining components of our robotic army. Although challenged, I am confident that his extensive knowledge of robotics engineering and AI will serve as valuable insights into how our robot companions operate. With his assistance, we can learn more about their advanced systems and capabilities.

In conclusion, despite Uncle Nat's past mistakes, I believe he remains a capable mentor and advisor on all matters pertaining to artificial intelligence and robotics technology. By working together with him, we can gain further understanding of the complexities involved in creating intelligent machines that complement human society rather than threaten its existence.

ARMS (10TH TRAIT)

The use of diamond fiber in our robotic arms serves multiple purposes, each crucial to ensuring optimal performance during combat operations or rapid movement. First and foremost, diamond is one of the hardest materials known to mankind, meaning it provides unparalleled protection against damage caused by impacts, collisions, or contact with sharp objects. This quality translates into enhanced durability for our 'bot limbs, allowing them to sustain rough handling without being damaged or compromised. Additionally, because diamond is incredibly dense, it imparts significant weight savings compared to alternative armor materials, resulting in lighter, faster, and more agile 'bots overall. Furthermore, the low thermal expansion coefficient of diamond means that our arms remain stable under harsh heat conditions, such as those encountered during battles involving laser weapons or explosives. Finally, diamond possesses excellent thermal conductivity, which helps dissipate heat generated by motors, servos, or other internal components, preventing overheating and subsequent malfunctions. All this combined makes diamond fiber the go-to choice for our 10-layered arm exteriors, providing robust defense while facilitating smooth motion and efficient operation.
Another key reason for incorporating diamond fiber into the construction of our robotic arms is the tremendous capacity required to effectively carry and manipulate massive firepower and protective barriers. As modern warfare becomes increasingly mechanized, military robots must shoulder heavier loads of ordnance, fortifications, and other equipment critical to mission success. The incredible tensile strength and rigidity of diamond enable our 'bots to confidently wield immense payloads without risking structural failure or reduced mobility. Without doubt, the inclusion of diamond fiber allows our robots to maintain lethality and flexibility in combat situations where strength and stability are non-negotiable factors.

FROST

Colonel Snowball was a bear well loved and respected throughout the free world and feared by the Axis of Evil Army. His battles numbered in the dozens and the ships he commanded that had been shot down or captured by the enemy could be counted on one paw's fingers. He used to have friends everywhere and his friendship was longed for by everyone. The simple fact of saying that you were a friend of Colonel Snowball opened doors and windows and gave you a status that others were not supposed to. To mention Colonel Snowball was to refer to a great soldier, a hero, brave, fierce at times, a strategist and, what would be his downfall, a friend of his friends whom he fully trusted and whom he never thought of wrong.

Luna, which was the name of Mrs. Snowball, was a polar bear of great beauty and attractiveness. She was feminine, flirtatious, chic and sexy with a beautiful white coat and piercing blue eyes. Before meeting and marrying Colonel Snowball, she had many suitors. She was a heartbreaker and she plunged more than one rejected admirer into misery.

Upon marrying the father of the future captain Gaia, Mrs. Snowball decided that her times of flirtation and frivolity had come to an end for her and she would from now on be an exemplary housewife, a mother without equal and a wife impeccable. As the years passed, the colonel and Luna's love grew stronger and deeper. They faced many challenges together, but they always stuck by each other's side, through thick and thin. In the end, they knew that their love was truly special, and that they were meant to be together forever.

The winter holidays arrived and Colonel Snowball decided that they could go to spend them in the Finnish Lapp lands of the Arctic where they could observe the northern lights. And there went the happy family of three, Colonel Snowball, his wife, and young Gaia. They had talked about expanding the family. Both spouses wanted to have a daughter and thought that what better time to get down to business than a vacation.

As previously related, Colonel Snowball had many friends. Among them was “Uncle Coal”, named Nat King Coal. He was a Canadian Mounted Police black bear who had met Gaia's father fighting side by side at the Battle of Vimy Ridge which took place in 1917 during World War I. It was fought in northern France and resulted in a victory for the Canadian Corps, led by Colonel Nat King Coal, over the German forces. The battle was a major achievement for the Canadian forces and is often considered a defining moment in Canadian history.

Photo: Col. Nat King Coal, Uncle Nat

The package was completed with a quick wit and a mischievous smile and captivating emerald green eyes. He was quite a gallant and some confused him with an actor, such were his bearing and gait; If the call of his homeland had not been so powerful, surely our protagonist would have ended up acting as Otello, to name one relevant role, and he would have been a Hollywood heartthrob.

But if in Europe was the father "de la Fermosa Garota" who lived his dissolute life, here, in Canadian and arctic lands, the position of reveler had been won with flying colors by Uncle Coal. The gallant, flirtatious and smug beautiful bear whose, shall we say, moral compass did not point north.

A famous anecdote that tells us what his character was like is the following in which he had to be rescued by Colonel Snowball: Uncle Coal was a wild and carefree young bear who loved nothing more than partying and chatting up ladies. He spent his days and nights living life to the fullest, indulging in every pleasure and excitement that came his way.

Col. Nat King Coal Partying
Col. Nat King Coal Partying

Photo: Col. Nat King Coal Partying

But Nat's reckless lifestyle eventually caught up with him. One night, after a particularly wild party, he stumbled home drunk and fell into bed, exhausted. The next morning, he was awoken by a loud knock on the door. It was the military police, and they had come to arrest him for driving under the influence.

Nat was shocked and ashamed. He had always thought of himself as invincible, but now he realized that his actions had consequences. He was terrified at the thought of going to jail and ruining his future. Of course, as the gallant gentleman that he was, he asked the forces of order to allow the two lady bears that accompanied him to put on something before leaving the slum in which they were handcuffed.

Just when things seemed their bleakest, Colonel Snowball stepped in to help Nat. He was so powerful and influential that with his help, Nat was able to avoid punishment and get his life back on track.

From then on, Nat lived a more responsible and sober life. He had learned to appreciate the simple pleasures of life and the importance of making good choices. He still loved to party and have fun, but he knew that there were limits, and he never let his wild side get the best of him again. He was grateful to his friend Snowball for interceding on his behalf and giving him a second chance.

And after this brief paragraph so that the reader knows Uncle Coal better, we will continue with the holidays in Finnish Lapland. Colonel Snowball hadn't seen his Canadian friend, the Canadian Mounted Police black bear, for a long time, so he decided to invite him on the trip so he could catch up and reminisce about past battles over a good drink. Colonel Coal was short of time to sign up. Spending a few days with the beloved Snowball family again and playing with his godson, young Gaia, was a great plan.

After a trip without incidents, they arrived at the charming hotel where they would all stay.

The holidays passed normally. Gaia's parents wanted to give her a little sister and, let's say, the nights were very romantic for the happy marriage.

One fine day, Colonel Snowball received a notification: he had to report to a crisis cabinet immediately. With no choice, Colonel Snowball had to leave his family and friend for a few days, so he begged his friend Nat to look after his family while he was away. The Canadian promised him that his family was safe with him and that he could leave without any worries. Unfortunately, they would never see each other again that winter, since it was coming to an end and Uncle Nat had to go back to Montreal. They hugged and Gaia's father got on the plane that was waiting for him.

The days without Colonel Snowball passed as normal. Gaia and Uncle Nat played all the time and before going to sleep, the black bear and Mrs. Snowball used to have a sherry and converse amicably while young Gaia slept exhausted.

Finally, the holidays came to an end. Uncle Nat escorted Mrs. Snowball and Gaia to their transport, which would return them to their Arctic home, and he boarded the Royal Canadian Air Force plane that would take him to Montreal.

Back home, in the arctic, Colonel Snowball and Luna, Gaia's mother, were overjoyed. Their busy nights had borne fruit and Mrs. Snowball was pregnant. The entire arctic community was happy for the young couple and after undergoing an ultrasound they had told Mrs Snowball that she was expecting a girl. The marriage could not ask for more and after 200 days of gestation, Luna's waters broke. A doctor and her midwives attended to help deliver the bear. There they were eagerly waiting for the white head of Gaia's much-desired sister to appear. And so it was: a beautiful and round white head made its way; all those present, overjoyed, celebrated the happy ending of that pregnancy and were short of words of admiration and all kinds of congratulations to the parents, who were overwhelmed with happiness for giving birth to such a precious little bear, and all that until... until after the polar white fur of the baby's head was followed by a body with a beautiful black and shiny skin the color of jet. The entire operating room was silent.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion: the cigars that fell to the ground, the looks of disbelief that those present exchanged with each other, the photos and selfies with mobile phones, the tears of the now guilty until proven otherwise Mrs. Snowball, the despondency of the colonel... ah, what a moment for gossips: many had already commented on the possibility that now appeared before them. All that quasi-Christmas atmosphere had been visited by the particular Grinch of childbirth, colloquially called “I told you you were too trusting”. The silence gave way to an endless litany of shouts, sighs, “itoldyouso” and all kinds of comments that never come in handy and only make things worse.

That Fateful Night
That Fateful Night

There was only one piece of evidence left to corroborate the worst omens. The little girl had not opened her eyes. Everyone expected brown eyes, like Colonel Snowball's, or blue like Luna Snowball's. All those present inquiringly surrounded the newborn waiting for her to solve the dilemma: what color would the eyes of such a long-awaited baby be? And the offspring gave signs of wanting to open her little eyes; Almost imperceptible movements heralded an immediate opening and so it was, and some beautiful emerald green eyes lit up the delivery room and, among expressions of dismay at what they implied, words of admiration for the beauty of that little doll that looked surprised and endless demonstrations of all kinds, ranging from Colonel Snowball's “I'll finish you off” to “she won't be short of boyfriends” and other insubstantial comments of the same kind, turned the delivery room into the Marx Brothers' Cabin.

Anxiolytics were distributed to those present and everyone thought that for the little bear that was not a very edifying scene, so they decided to calm down, stop gossiping and laugh and most of them light up those Havana cigars that lay on the floor of the delivery room. Ah, the gossip and the resounding silence: the beatific smiles had turned into sarcastic grimaces, and what had been complicit glances had given way to malicious winks.

Frost Just Born
Frost Just Born

Photo: Frost Just Born

The tranquilizer had not been able to reduce the anger and shame of the father of the future Captain Gaia, whose verbiage was a continuous insult without a conjunction in between; his screams rose again to threats and unanswered questions like: how could his friend do that to him? How had he not realized the seductive and shameless nature of such an infamous element? Colonel Snowball repeated his angry warnings and threats against his former great friend while looking desperately at his “daughter” and making all sorts of fuss. Until, as a result of a fit, he pounced on the young bear lying in an incubator. Everyone feared the worst: had he gone crazy? Was the baby's life in danger? Colonel Snowball, oblivious to the whispers, gesticulations and astonished faces of those present, took the little girl in his arms, hugged her, showered her with kisses and recognized her as his daughter. Frost would be her name. Evil tongues soon sharpened and took advantage of her name: jokingly and among themselves, they would call her Fried.
